Milan midfielder Yunus Musah spoke about his return to the US national team, stating that his recent performances earned him the call-up, according to ESPN. He also discussed Stefano Pioli's trust in him and his loan spell at Atalanta.

This season, Yunus Musah's decision to stay at Milan has been a pleasant surprise, as he has delivered strong performances. Last season, he was on loan at Atalanta, where he saw limited playing time and did not meet expectations. Upon returning to Milanello, Pioli showed faith in the American midfielder from day one. Musah has responded with a series of excellent displays, earning him a recall to the US national team after an 18-month absence. Musah was interviewed during the US training camp, discussing his situation at Milan.
Regarding Pioli's message before the training camp that he would be heavily relied upon, Musah said: "I thought Pioli was just saying that to keep me at the club, like other coaches do. But during preseason, I found myself playing a lot of matches, and he also spoke to me frequently. That's when I realized he was serious."
On his strong start to the season with Milan and the US national team, Musah stated: "I've gotten a lot of playing time this season and started many matches. Now I'm back with the national team. It's been a very good start to the season. As a player, having a coach who trusts you again, getting that confidence and playing opportunities—that's truly what you want."
Speaking about his loan spell at Atalanta, Musah commented: "The midfield environment there was excellent, and I learned a lot—how to position myself, how to play as a double pivot, and how to always be ready. I also refined technical details such as positioning and body posture, and learned to judge where on the field I could take risks."
Regarding his return to the US national team after a year and a half, Musah said: "I feel like my performances at the start of the season earned me this call-up. I've been playing well at a big club like Milan, so this return makes sense, and I'm happy to be back."
On not following the World Cup, Musah stated: "Honestly, I wasn't really on social media or my phone much. I was just in Ghana and Zanzibar with the locals, enjoying the summer. In the last week of my vacation, I started training to prepare for returning to Milan for preseason."
