According to Sport, Gerard Martín will make his official 100th appearance for FC Barcelona this Saturday against Getafe. The defender has developed consistently since joining Barcelona's first team in summer 2024. His first preseason under Flick's management transformed his career trajectory. After playing for Cornellà in Spain's third division, his discipline and willingness to learn helped him progress rapidly.

To date, Gerard Martín has made 99 appearances for FC Barcelona: 66 in La Liga, 20 in the UEFA Champions League, 10 in the Copa del Rey, and 3 in the Spanish Super Cup. A lifelong Barcelona fan like his parents and grandparents, he is fulfilling a childhood dream. His family has watched him achieve this milestone.

Initially, Gerard Martín played left-back for the first team, but when Iñigo Martínez departed last season, Flick transitioned him to center-back. Gerard Martín recalled in an interview with Sport: "During the preseason tour in Japan, Flick asked me to try center-back in one match, and I played well. After that, I started training at center-back sometimes, and he gave me opportunities in games. It went smoothly, and I've been there ever since."

This is Gerard Martín's third season with Barcelona's first team, and his position in the heart of defense remains secure. His partnership with Cubarsí has been exceptional and highly satisfying for Flick. Flick consistently emphasizes that Gerard Martín is like a sponge—always ready to learn and give his all.

Regarding his future and reaching 100 appearances, Gerard Martín told Sport: "I want to stay here for many more years. I'll reach 100 appearances soon, and I hope to play another 100 after that. The more, the better."

The player, who previously played for Sant Gabriel and Cornellà, has worked with the same agent since the beginning of his career. He explained: "I remember working with the same agent for six or seven years now, and my brother has recently joined to help me. That's really important to me. There are many interests in this world, but for me, what matters is being with people who have been with me all along and from the start. I'm very happy with them. Even though my career path has changed significantly, if I'm happy with them, there's no reason to change. After all, they're the ones who've been with me until this point."
