One of the biggest surprises for Barça Atlètic this season has been Mirza Catovic. The midfielder on loan from Stuttgart has stood out thanks to his impressive performances in midfield under the direction of Giuliano Beletti.

At 1.93 meters tall, Catovic resembles Bernal in terms of physique and playing style; he has largely dominated the midfield in the matches he has featured in. His debut as a starter came against UD Logroñés B, after which he missed the next match due to suspension, and the following two matches due to a call-up to the German U20 national team.

Upon returning from the international break, Catovic started against SD Logroñés alongside Adam Argemi and Oriol Goren, who also missed two matches due to commitments with the Israeli national team. The player still owned by Stuttgart delivered a complete performance.

According to Sport, a "scout" was present in the stands at Johan Cruyff Stadium to watch Catovic in action. Emir Spahić, sports director of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team and former Sevilla player, watched Catovic's match from the box.

Sport previously reported that the midfielder could represent Germany, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Catovic comes from the Sandžak region in the Balkans; he is Muslim, the dominant religion in that area. As a child, he moved to Germany with his family, which is why he qualifies to play for these three nations. Currently, he only plays for various German youth national teams. Given Spahić's observation, developments could well emerge in the near future. Ultimately, the player himself will have to make the decision.

Catovic came through the Rot-Weiss Frankfurt youth academy, where he played until age 16, after which he was recruited by Stuttgart, one of Germany's top football clubs. He has spent the last three seasons with the club. This season, he initially started with Stuttgart's reserve team, making two appearances in the 3. Liga. Last season, he played 29 matches in Germany's third division, scoring one goal. The season before that, at just 17 years old, he already made 10 appearances.

Barcelona holds a purchase option on the player and is currently very satisfied with his performance.
