In the lead-up to the Champions League match, Roma will face Real Madrid in the knockout stages tomorrow. Gattuso attended a press conference to discuss the upcoming match against the Blancos.

The Opponent

Gattuso first spoke about Real Madrid. "Are they going through their worst period? We'll find out tomorrow. I want to compete against one of Europe's strongest teams. They've changed their tactics and coaching staff, so they need time to settle. Their win against Internazionale was crucial and important for their standings." When asked how to compete against such powerful teams, he said: "It's difficult to use Real Madrid as a benchmark. At club level, there's no need to compare ourselves to them. But on the pitch, we must. I've already played against Internazionale and Como, among Italy's strongest teams. Now we'll see how strong Europe really is."

Mourinho's Return

Tomorrow, Mourinho will return to Roma. The manager holds an important place in Roma's history. "He deserves respect. The Roma fans loved him very much. Everyone has their own feelings. But when the match starts, all emotions must be set aside and the Roma fans will support their team," Gattuso said. Facing him as an opponent is always a challenge, but Gattuso's Roma is different from Mourinho's era. "These are two different teams. Each has its own characteristics. Back then, Roma was dealing with new ownership and new investments, but now the team has evolved and become very solid. We have the right environment and the qualities to reach the Champions League." He also addressed the Endrick situation: "Next January, I won't be asking Mourinho about that player's status. We haven't thought about such matters at this point. We'll view tomorrow's match as an event we haven't seen in years."

Regarding facing Mourinho, he said: "When I was at Internazionale, beating him was the most difficult task. Later, when Roma faced him, Atalanta was performing better at that time. The results speak for themselves. Mourinho is among the most successful managers. What I might 'learn' from him could be the appeal to make a club want to buy top players." When asked how to handle Real Madrid, he replied: "If a team like Como is struggling, their playing style becomes completely different. Our style earned us Champions League qualification. We know their strength. We've played against many powerful teams. They can create chances and threats with few opportunities. But that's what characterizes a strong team. I don't think Roma needs to abandon its characteristics." Speaking about Atalanta, he said: "When I took over Roma, Atalanta started from a lower position than they are now. They didn't win the Champions League, but they did qualify for the Europa League. Italian football can't demand the Champions League from everyone. Everyone needs to manage their own world well. But the journey ahead is still long."

Team Condition – After the Como match, the team must also be assessed. "Kulijevaski is returning to training. Cristante still needs more time. Today was the first full team training session. There are no special injuries. That match was very demanding because we played for a long time with ten men. But the team's morale is good," Gattuso said.
