Egyptian side Al Masry earned a 1-0 win over Morocco’s RS Berkane in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup group stage to edge closer to the competition’s quarter-final.

The Port Said-based side secured a precious home win in the fourth round of the group stage. They now top Group B on eight points, one ahead of second-placed RS Berkane. Sudanese side Al Hilal sit third with three points, and Mozambican UD Songo are at the bottom of the group with two points after they played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Ahmed Gomaa had a chance to open the scoring around the half hour mark, but his shot was easily saved by RS Berkane keeper Abdelali Mohamadi.
Al Masry’s new signing Emeka Eze had a penalty appeal turned down in the 35th minute as the first half ended goalless.
The hosts, however, had a strong start to the second half and took the lead nine minutes after the restart. Islam Issa scored the game’s only goal as he sent a shot from outside the box and managed to place the ball in the top left corner. Ahmed Shokry then missed a chance to double the hosts lead around the one-hour mark.
Al Masry, Egypt’s only representative in the competition this year, will next travel to face UD Songo on August 19 before hosting Al Hilal in their final group game nine days later.
