It had already been established that Alexis Vega would miss the start of the Clausura 2026 tournament, but neither the length of his recovery nor the procedure he would undergo had been made public. On Tuesday, Deportivo Toluca issued a statement clarifying the situation surrounding the forward.

“Deportivo Toluca informs that our player Alexis Vega will undergo an arthroscopic joint clean-up procedure,” the club said. “The estimated recovery time is four to six weeks. The club will closely monitor his progress and wishes him a swift and successful recovery.”
As a result, Vega will miss a significant portion of the regular season and could return around matchday 7 or 8, when Toluca face Necaxa or Chivas. He will also be unavailable for selection by Javier Aguirre for January’s FIFA international window, during which Mexico are scheduled to play two friendlies.
In the meantime, head coach Antonio Mohamed must find a way to compensate for Vega’s absence on the field, at least until the attacker is fully fit again. The aim will be to navigate as smoothly as possible through a tournament that serves as a key buildup to the upcoming World Cup.
“I’ll come back stronger”
Following the procedure, Vega posted a photo on Instagram and shared a brief message with his followers: “Everything went very well. I’ll come back stronger. Thank you for all your messages and good wishes.”
