Köln midfielder Skhiri has retired from the Tunisian national team, the 31-year-old announced on social media on Thursday.

Skhiri earned 86 caps for Tunisia, participated in three World Cups, and captained the national team at this summer's World Cup in North America.

"For me, the time has come to announce the end of my national team career. Wearing this jersey and representing my country fills me with pride, and it is a tremendous honor. Those emotions, shared moments, and all these memories will forever remain in my heart," said Skhiri, who made his national team debut in 2018.

At this year's World Cup, Tunisia lost all three group stage matches and was eliminated. Skhiri subsequently transferred from Eintracht Frankfurt back to Köln, where he had played from 2019 to 2023.
