According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Barcelona president Joan Laporta reiterated his desire to honor Messi following the completion of the Spotify Camp Nou renovation during the club's General Assembly.

Sport reported that Laporta used the General Assembly to convey a message to Messi: if Messi is willing, Barcelona would be eager to honor him in the new stadium once it opens. He also emphasized that the club remains committed to paying proper tribute to the greatest player in its history.
Laporta said, "We have told Messi that we hope to hold a tribute for him once the stadium is finished, if he is willing."
Laporta also addressed the possibility of Messi returning to Barcelona: "There was indeed an opportunity for him to play for us for another season, but it didn't happen because he made a different decision." However, Laporta did not specify which period he was referring to.
These comments touch on a source of regret for many Barcelona supporters: when Messi left Barcelona in August 2021, he did not receive a proper farewell match, despite his brilliant career deserving one.
Nevertheless, Laporta sought to ease tensions and demonstrate the club's positive stance: "We would be delighted to hold a tribute for him. I hope to see him very soon."
Additionally, Laporta expressed his condolences regarding Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi's father and agent, who passed away in Rosario on August 8 this year at the age of 68.
"Our deepest condolences to his father and our remembrance of him. He was truly an excellent person," Laporta stated.
Jorge Messi played a significant role in Lionel's career. When Messi was young, Jorge accompanied him to Barcelona, enabling him to begin his career at La Masia, and was instrumental in important negotiations between Messi and the club.
