Depay apologized to Corinthians fans for missing a penalty kick and stated he would not give up on making more history for the club.

Depay said: "I want to apologize to the fans, to the millions who believed we could achieve the Copa Libertadores dream. My heart is broken because of it. That penalty, which could have kept us in the game, became the biggest disappointment of my career so far. I was fully confident in how to take the penalty, as I have done many times in my career, but the outcome was painful. I came to this wonderful club to always show my talent, discipline, and professionalism. Two years have passed, and we have created many great memories, but all of that is over now, it's in the past.
I renewed my contract fully aware of the situation and knowing that things wouldn't be easy, as this year hasn't been good for me so far. When I received your support, my heart was filled with joy! This support came from the fans who were with me when I needed them most. And that's why this ending hurts even more!
I understand and accept all the criticism and emotions that come with this moment, but I will never, ever give up. I will continue to work hard to make more history at this club and, together with the team and fans, take Corinthians to where it belongs. So, I apologize again to everyone who truly loves this club. Now it's either work harder or go home, because I am not the kind of person who hides behind excuses.
It won't be easy, but those who know me know that I am a fighter. I am still on the battlefield because the dream we share has not died—at least not in my heart. As for those who find joy in our pain, please remember that this will not change the path we are on. Life will teach everyone a lesson in their own time."
