Gualtieri, speaking at the C20 (Cities) Summit 2026 in New York, discussed the current situation in Rome, the progress of both AS Roma's and Lazio's stadium projects, as well as the city's prospects for hosting major sporting events.

Gualtieri said: "Sporting events are drivers of economic growth and urban renewal. We are pushing forward work from smaller venues to stadiums: AS Roma's project is progressing faster, but Lazio's project is also under development ahead of Euro 2032. This also strengthens our bid capacity for the Olympics, which we hope to secure for 2036 or 2040."
