Cagliari midfielder Alessandro Romano discussed his decision to choose the Italian national team over Switzerland, the influence of Mancini, and his career goals.

Romano said, "Do I need to pinch myself every morning at this stage to confirm it's real? Sometimes, yes."

Everything happened quickly

Romano is currently a key player for Cagliari under coach Pisacane and scored in his league debut. He stated, "The fact that everything has happened so quickly is precisely what motivates me every day. Before starting training with Cagliari, I was on vacation in Zurich with my father, and we prepared thoroughly for this step, training diligently. The fact that everything is going so well now is also proof of my daily efforts."

Extensive preparation

When asked about his goals at the start of the season, Romano said, "I want to give my all in every training session, strive to perform, and earn playing opportunities. Before the training camp started in July, we watched many Cagliari games to try to understand how coach Pisacane wanted the team to play. For me, thorough preparation is very important."

Making the leap

From being on loan at Serie B side Spezia to becoming a key player in Serie A, Romano commented, "It certainly wasn't easy. Switzerland's second division is often underestimated. I don't think every Swiss Super League team could easily establish itself in that league. However, I believe in daily training, so I dedicate a lot of time before and after training to injury prevention, sports psychology, and recovery."

Choosing the Italian national team

Romano, who holds dual Swiss and Italian citizenship, could have chosen the Swiss team, but he ultimately accepted the invitation from Mancini and the Italian national team. Romano explained, "Because it was my heartfelt choice. I didn't weigh pros and cons or consider where I might have more playing opportunities, or which team had recently participated in major tournaments. Am I surprised by the attention my decision received? Honestly, yes."

Commitment off the field

The player, born in 2006, also spoke about his life off the field: "I've also learned to cook with my mom. Diet is very important for performance. Football is my life, and I will do my best to achieve my highest goals."
