Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida has warned that there would be consequences if the World Cup final is not held in Madrid. Spain and Morocco are currently competing to host the final match.

Tensions over the Ceuta region have further strained relations between the two nations. Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, has previously stated that Morocco will not abandon its goal of hosting the final at Stade Hassan II. The stadium is designed to hold 115,000 spectators and aims to become the world's largest football stadium.

Speaking at a breakfast hosted by Heraldo de Aragón, Almeida acknowledged that Casablanca may have a stronger case than Madrid to host the final: "I'm not optimistic because I believe Morocco and the King of Morocco wanting this final is understandable. I think they are clearly working at the political and institutional level to secure it."

Almeida also stated: "If the final is not held in Madrid, should we reconsider whether the World Cup should even be held here? I don't have the right to say that, but if the final isn't in Madrid, I think there will definitely be consequences." He did not specify whether the final should be held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium or the Metropolitano Stadium.

However, Almeida clarified that he has no evidence that the Spanish government is working toward this outcome. No official date has been announced for the host city, and FIFA has stated that "a decision will be made at the appropriate time." FIFA has yet to confirm the venue, and the final could also potentially be held at Spotify Camp Nou.
