Former Man City goalkeeper Joe Hart told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak's statement that the club has not breached financial rules, and Al Mubarak's words have reassured him.

Man City has been accused of breaching 115 Premier League financial rules, and the club will appeal the related verdicts. Al Mubarak stated that he remains committed to "proving the club's innocence" and described the process as "a long journey".

Hart, who earned 75 caps for England and made 348 appearances for Man City across all competitions between 2006 and 2016, said on the programme that Al Mubarak "has run the club very well" and is a "trustworthy" person. Hart said: "Honestly, I have no reason not to trust Khaldoon. What he says is enough for me. I like the way he communicates, and I like that letter, because it was written by someone who genuinely cares about the club."

Hart stated that currently there is "no convincing evidence" and everything should "run its natural course", and the controversy will not diminish his achievements at Man City. He won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup with Man City.

Hart said: "If City is found guilty, then there will be things to discuss. But right now I'm very confident and very calm. I'm proud of what I achieved at City, what I accomplished with City, and what we achieved as a team. That won't change."

Hart said he has not considered discussing this news with former teammates at Man City because he "cannot engage in all those 'ifs', 'buts' and 'maybes'". He said: "I did what I had to do. I played in 11-a-side matches, resolved issues on the pitch. I won some matches, lost some matches and drew some matches, then shook hands and moved on. I know what I did, and I know what we did, and I know how it all happened. It's not like a conspiracy, and it's not like something was being planned."
