According to an official statement from the Italian Football Federation, Diana Bianchedi, head of the Italian national team delegation, has resigned. Her resignation was prompted by statements made by Sports Minister Andrea Abodi and the resulting media controversy.

Bianchedi stated, "In light of the statements made by the Minister of Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, and the controversy that emerged in the media this afternoon (local time), I am stepping down from my position as head of the national team delegation."

Bianchedi added, "This decision is based on my deep respect for the Italian National Olympic Committee, its executive board, the Italian Football Federation, and various sports organizations, as demonstrated by my career as both an athlete and sports administrator. I have always acted with integrity and diligence, respecting the rules, honoring others, and working for the good of sport: values that are now being unfairly questioned."

She further explained, "I am also choosing to step aside for the sake of what this blue jersey represents, with the primary goal of protecting the team from unnecessary controversy. I see a united team, motivated, with many outstanding professionals, from the head coach to the players and entire staff. I thank them for their welcome and the thrilling moments they have allowed me to experience in these past few days. Let us remember that sport is, and should always be, about these things. Let us support these young people; they deserve it."

Abodi's comments specifically referred to disagreements between Bianchedi and Marco Di Paola, Vice President of the Italian Olympic Committee, with IOC President Buonfiglio regarding how to handle the weightlifting federation.

The Sports Minister stated, "Vice Presidents have the right and duty to voice their opinions, but if their views consistently contradict the President's, then they must make a choice. They were given these roles based on a relationship of trust. It is worth reflecting on the fact that these two iconic figures, entrusted with leadership roles built on the foundation of trust, cannot consistently demonstrate that trust."

"This is an internal choice they made, but generally speaking, relationships like that do not last long."
