According to Roman newspapers, after undergoing medical examinations the previous day, Darmian has already joined the squad for training. Bologna's alternative is Hysaj.

The general sense is that his stay at Casteldebole as a Bologna player depends on his performances on the pitch and the condition the former Inter player demonstrates in the coming training sessions, especially in friendlies. Darmian is also undergoing tests to confirm his current physical condition and how long it will take to return to an acceptable competitive state. But equally important is that he regains his feel for the game and readjusts to the context, rhythm, intensity, space, and tempo of an official match.

Truth be told, Darmian hasn't had this sensation for several months. He has trained diligently with a personal fitness coach, which is no small detail, as physical condition is certainly important, but a match involves many other aspects that cannot be overlooked. What Bologna wants to establish is how long it will take for Darmian to be sufficiently match-fit again, and for one reason in particular: Palladino needs a player who can ideally be ready within three, or at most four, weeks — four weeks is a lot, perhaps even too much.

Bologna's decision on Darmian: Currently, Bologna has not disclosed any information on this matter, both out of discretion and out of respect for Darmian, who is an extremely professional and equally excellent player.

Even though Darmian is training at Casteldebole, Bologna has not stopped looking at other candidates.

For example, Elseid Hysaj, 32, the former Lazio player, is currently a free agent and has played for Albania in the Nations League in recent days. There is also Spanish player Pol Lirola, 29, former Verona; and Mitchel Bakker, 26, former Atalanta, who is left-footed. Yes, should Bologna and Darmian ultimately not join forces, Hysaj will be the main alternative to Zortea.
