On October 1, Manchester City released an interview with Enzo for the club's official magazine.

In the final moments before the summer transfer window closed, Enzo's transfer from Benfica to Manchester City was officially confirmed. In an interview with "Manchester City Magazine," he discussed his expectations for the future and the role he intends to play in helping the team continue to win titles.
No one would question that Enzo is a fighter. At 25, he has two World Cup final appearances, nearly 300 club appearances, and almost 50 caps for the Argentine national team. Now, as a Manchester City player, he arrives with the goal of helping the club win as many trophies as possible by competing for every title.
Enzo joins a long list of Manchester City's star-studded Argentine players. We have witnessed that warrior spirit in players like Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Tevez, Nicolás Otamendi, Julián Álvarez, and Sergio Agüero, so it's what we expect from any player born in Argentina.
Fernández is no exception; in fact, he is a prime example of that competitive, never-say-die attitude that has become a hallmark of Argentine footballers. "It's our characteristic. We don't want to lose anything; we want to win everything," he said.
"Well, it's natural," Enzo explained. "Argentines are very dedicated and very passionate about football, and very frustrated when we lose. It's our characteristic. We don't want to lose anything; we want to win everything. As Argentines, it's a point of pride to feel that passion."
Almost all of Manchester City's Argentine stars come from Buenos Aires—the country's vibrant capital, with over 3 million people in the city proper and 17 million in the greater metropolitan area. What makes Buenos Aires such a consistent pipeline for top players over the years?
"Honestly, it's a very passionate city, with many teams that love football," Enzo explained. "A large number of Argentine players come from there, and it's a place where people experience football with great passion. We players try to convey that passion, whether at the club or with the national team."
Fernández comes from San Martín, near the heart of Buenos Aires. It was in the streets and open spaces near his home that he and his four brothers played football, dreaming of one day representing Argentina. At five or six years old, he wanted to emulate only one player: "Messi," he said with a smile. "Did I want to be him? Yes, obviously! I used to watch him play and dreamed of playing alongside him one day, to be like him—and in fact, many of my dreams eventually came true with him in the national team. Obviously, he has always been my inspiration."
But Enzo would be the first to admit that his playing style differs from Messi's unique talent. Did that influence his position on the field in his youth? "I started as a central midfielder, and then I also played in more advanced positions, as well as in a double pivot alongside another midfielder," he said. "But my role has always been midfield. However, now I like to get into the box and score goals."
The former River Plate, Benfica, and Chelsea star has become an increasing threat in the box over time. He scored 7, 9, and a career-high 15 goals in his last three seasons at Chelsea, respectively. This indicates that Manchester City has signed a midfielder whose goal-scoring threat in the box has increased year after year.
It was this quality that made Enzo Maresca determined to bring Fernández to Manchester City. "He's a top coach, honestly," Enzo said. "I worked with him at Chelsea and had an incredible time. I learned a lot from him. He's very passionate, very Latin in his approach. Working with him is a pleasure for me."
"I'm also very grateful because he played a big part in bringing me here. It's a huge honor to work with him. Both of us were very keen for this transfer to happen, and I know it wasn't easy to make everything work. But I know he also put in a lot of effort, communicated with the club, and I'm grateful to him for that. Those days were long, but eventually I came here, and I'm very happy to join Manchester City."
How much did Fernández know about Manchester City before arriving? Of course, he had played with some of the club's former players in the national team, but one of them spoke particularly highly of Manchester City. "Julián Álvarez is my friend, and he told me a lot about this club," he said. "That was a very important factor in helping me understand what the club represents and its significance. I'm grateful for this opportunity to be here."
"There's no doubt that this is a great team, and we will definitely achieve shared success in the future. We need to enjoy all of this, because that's what matters most—staying united."
Enzo made his debut in a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry, and a few days later, he provided a crucial assist in a 2-0 away win against Porto in the Champions League, marking a perfect start to his Manchester City career.
Since joining, the enthusiasm he has felt from Manchester City fans has made him even more determined to help the club win trophies quickly. He said: "I want to thank the fans for their welcome. Honestly, I feel at home, and that's very important for a player's confidence. I want to tell them that I will give 100% every day—in every training session and every game—to help this club achieve all its objectives throughout the season, win many trophies, and enjoy it."
Fight to the end. There's no other way for Manchester City.
