David Ornstein stated today on The Overlap that after he first broke the news of Manchester City's financial fair play charges last week, he received criticism and online harassment from some Manchester City fans. He emphasized that he always conducts his work according to journalistic standards.

This case could ultimately become one of the biggest scandals in football history. The Premier League has now confirmed that 114 of 115 charges against Manchester City, involving serious financial violations, have been upheld. Ornstein first broke the story at The Athletic and, during today's program, explained how he obtained the information and verified every detail before publishing. As one of the most reliable journalists in the industry, he insists that despite online criticism and even harassment from Manchester City fans, he strictly followed proper procedures.

Speaking about being the first to report the Manchester City charges, Ornstein said, "This is one of the most distressing events in the history of English, European, and world football, and I take no pleasure in it. I'm not happy when a club is proven to have engaged in widespread cheating, which they still deny.

You simply have to do your job, and Manchester City and other clubs understand that. So I think that's why the entire process has gone quite smoothly, because that's what I've done throughout my career. And this is a matter of public interest.

I've received a lot of criticism and harassment from Manchester City fans, suggesting that someone called me and leaked the information. But this isn't a leak—I don't consider it a leak. You might have a different definition of what constitutes a leak. I'm confident I uncovered this story and, following proper procedures, completed a crucial news report. Interestingly, I haven't received any formal complaints from any of the parties involved. All the complaints and criticism have come from social media, because people are emotional and many don't like it."
