Atletico Madrid forward Alvarez is considering changing agents, according to AS. He has spent recent weeks evaluating whether to switch representatives, potentially ending a nearly decade-long partnership with Fernando Hidalgo.

Several Argentine agencies have expressed interest, with an Argentine firm founded by former player Javier Pastore currently leading negotiations. Talks between the two parties are said to be at an advanced stage, pending final confirmation.

Alvarez's representatives began exploring options after the transfer window closed. According to the report, the player's father, Gustavo Alvarez, is leading the process of selecting the new agency.

Last summer, Atletico faced months of uncertainty surrounding Alvarez's future, with Barcelona also briefly linked in transfer speculation. Ultimately, the forward remained at the Metropolitano. During that period, there were external claims of "unfulfilled promises" and "ridiculous" offers, along with significant social media speculation and vague information circulating.

Atletico had consistently maintained that the issues did not stem from the player himself. CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin stated in late August that Alvarez was in "a very bad state," misguided and confused by someone. He described Alvarez as a good person going through a difficult period both personally and professionally.

The report suggests that whether Hidalgo departs Alvarez's team or responsibilities are reallocated within his current agency structure, it could help ease tensions with Atletico. Alvarez's contract with Atletico runs until 2030, leaving him with four years remaining on his deal.

Since the start of the new season, Alvarez's performances have fallen short of expectations. He must work to regain the confidence of supporters and the dressing room. The report notes that Romero has been an important figure during his recent dip in form.

Alvarez is not directly involved in the agent selection process at present. He is currently training with the Argentine national team ahead of Messi's farewell match against Benin. Messi is also Alvarez's idol. He is expected to return to Madrid around the end of this week, when he will participate in finalizing the decision.
