Former French defender Dixy Tixier said in an interview that Jorge Jesus is above all a tactical genius. Tixier played for União Leiria from 2005 to 2006, experiencing one season under Jorge Jesus. He believes the conflict between Jorge Jesus and Ronaldo is hardly surprising.

Tixier said: "I had faced him a few times before he came to União Leiria, and the feedback I heard was very positive. Everyone said he was a very good coach, but with a strong personality." When Jorge Jesus took over União Leiria, he replaced a coach who had been sacked after just one month. In his first speech after taking charge, Jorge Jesus declared: "Here, I'm in control. I'm the best coach in Portugal. You'll see—eventually I'll lead Benfica, Sporting CP, or Porto."

Tixier recalled that Jorge Jesus wanted players to understand that he controlled the dressing room while breaking down barriers between players to unite the team.

"It was challenging at first; he changed a lot at the club. But we quickly realized he was very strong and could take us to a new level. Tactically, he's excellent. People talk a lot about his personality now, but we shouldn't forget that he's first and foremost a tactical genius."

Tixier said Jorge Jesus would personally explain tactics in detail during training sessions and would even stop practice abruptly to correct a player's technique. Defensive corner situations, set pieces, high pressing, and offside traps were areas that Jorge Jesus emphasized. "I saw the tactics we used back in 2005 employed in several of his first matches coaching the Portuguese national team."

Regarding video analysis, Tixier said Jorge Jesus would spend hours studying players' movements and then use video to detail exactly how to neutralize opponents. He believed Jorge Jesus wanted everything organized perfectly.

Speaking about Jorge Jesus's management style, Tixier said: "He's very close to his players and can bring all of us to his side. He's very direct with everyone in the dressing room."

Tixier also spoke about Jorge Jesus's fiery temperament. Once, during a match between União Leiria and Sporting CP, Tixier was playing left-back against Nani. From the start of the match, he won the aerial duel with Nani, and Jorge Jesus shouted wildly from the touchline, praising him and telling him to keep it up. Tixier said Jorge Jesus was completely committed in both training and matches.

However, Tixier believes Jorge Jesus's high demands can also exhaust players. He noted that Jorge Jesus rarely stays at a club for long, which may be related to this; he also believes this temperament has made it difficult for Jorge Jesus to establish himself at top European clubs because he's a divisive figure.

Tixier stated that União Leiria's 7th place finish in the 2005-06 league season and their 3-1 home victory over Benfica were largely due to Jorge Jesus. Jorge Jesus often told his players: "We shouldn't fear anyone. Whether it's Benfica, Porto, or Sporting CP, they're just like us."

Tixier said Jorge Jesus made players willing to give him their all, and some players from that squad later joined top Portuguese clubs, while Tixier himself went to Lens. Before leaving União Leiria, Jorge Jesus insisted on treating the entire team to a meal. "He was the best coach I ever had in my career, similar to Arthur Jorge when he was coaching at Coimbra."

Regarding Ronaldo's accusation that Jorge Jesus broke his promises, Tixier said the Portuguese Football Federation officials knew there was a risk in choosing Jorge Jesus as head coach. "He has a very fiery personality. I might not directly call him arrogant, but it's close. He never backs down."

Tixier said he likes Ronaldo very much, but at 41 years old, Ronaldo should understand that giving opportunities to young players isn't a bad thing, and occasionally sitting on the bench isn't the end of the world. Regarding 72-year-old Jorge Jesus, Tixier believes he won't go against his convictions and will stand firm in his position.
