In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Owen stated that despite Manchester United's poor start to the season, Carrick deserves more time and the club should not rush to assess his future at this moment.

Owen said: "I want him to have more time. After all, he did very well last season. He deserves more time. We could easily point to a few examples. Manchester City benefited from a VAR decision—arguably one of the best or worst decisions, depending on which team you support. It's entirely possible United could have picked up a few more points."
"I'm not saying those extra points would fix everything, but let's be clear, United's form over the past 10 to 15 years has been poor. The second half of last season was their best period in that time."
"So it's understandable that United fans might have felt this season could be very promising and exciting. If the team could continue playing like they did last season, they could even contend for the title. I think now that the title race appears out of reach and they've been knocked out of the League Cup, this will likely significantly dampen the initial optimism among fans. The season is still long."
"I understand this, and I understand why there's some disappointment. But given Carrick's performance last season, that doesn't mean he should suddenly come under intense pressure now. United has tried that path before—constantly changing managers and then seeking a shiny new toy."
"They've hired veteran managers, experienced coaches, former club players, and promising young managers from abroad. Every approach has been tried. At some point, you have to accept that rebuilding United to the standard they aspire to will be a slow process."
