Official announcement: Torino Football Club announced that Ignazio Abate will coach the first team starting from July 1, 2026. The contract between both parties is until June 30, 2028.

Ignazio Abate was born on November 12, 1986, in Sant'Agata de' Goti, Benevento province. During his playing career, he was a defender, coming through the AC Milan youth academy. On December 3, 2003, at the age of 17, he made his professional debut in a Coppa Italia match against Sampdoria. Subsequently, he played for Napoli, Piacenza, Modena, and Empoli, and is also familiar with the Torino environment, having played for Torino in the 2008-2009 season. Later, he established himself at AC Milan, making 306 appearances for the team, scoring 3 goals, and winning 1 Serie A title and 2 Italian Supercup titles. In addition, he made 22 appearances for the Italian national team, scoring 1 goal, and was part of the team that finished runner-up in Euro 2012 and third in the 2013 Confederations Cup.

After retirement, Abate began his coaching career in 2021 at the AC Milan youth academy. He then coached the AC Milan Primavera team, achieving quite impressive results, reaching the UEFA Youth League semifinals in the 2022-23 season and then the final in the following season. In the 2024-2025 season, he coached a first team for the first time, leading Ternana. Last season, as the coach of Juve Stabia, Abate made his debut in Serie B, and the team performed well, ultimately losing to Monza in the promotion play-off semifinals, with Monza subsequently returning to Serie A.
