Klopp has made his first major decision. Before the squad announcement, the German coach sent a strong signal: Ter Stegen will immediately become Germany's number one goalkeeper upon his return to the national team.

According to Bild, Klopp has decided to hand him the goalkeeper position as soon as he reaches full fitness. After an extended injury layoff, Ter Stegen is currently undergoing intensive training at Ajax Amsterdam, working toward a return and regaining his best form.

However, Ter Stegen was recently benched at Ajax. Ahead of Klopp's first squad announcement, the goalkeeper did not start in Ajax's 5-1 victory over Willem II. Ajax coach Michel Sanchez has now explained this decision.

Sanchez stated at the press conference: "He's been out for a long time, and now there's an international break. I think it's a good time for Maarten Paes to play." He added: "This way Marc can get proper rest until Saturday and prepare for the upcoming international matches." Sanchez also said that if Ter Stegen reports to the German team, which he said is "very likely," then "we will have time to continue supporting his recovery afterward."

Ter Stegen is looking forward to a fresh start under new German coach Klopp. The two have already had their first conversation, and Ter Stegen was clearly impressed. The goalkeeper told Sky: "It was a really good conversation."

After his extended injury layoff, Ter Stegen's priority is regaining his fitness. He hopes to gradually return to his top level and reclaim his place through his performances. "Just like over the past few weeks," the former Borussia Mönchengladbach player explained, everything will fall into place.
