According to Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus CEO Gianluca Giuntoli revealed that the process of signing 19-year-old Alajobegovič this summer was far from straightforward. Chelsea had made a significantly higher offer, and Juventus came close to losing the player.

The Trento Sports Festival has officially opened. At a forum with the theme "Juventus's Future," Giuntoli discussed behind-the-scenes stories about Juventus's transfer activities this summer.
Giuntoli said: "This is not an easy transfer window; it's very complex. It's not because of a lack of money; you just need to look at the investment the club owners made yesterday to see that clearly. Our issue is the agreement arrangement with UEFA; we have to keep spending within certain limits."
"If you come to Juventus, you might think you can directly buy three or four of the best players, and you wouldn't even need Giuntoli. But that's impossible, so you have to use your mind. This transfer window is very creative, interesting, and inspiring, though also difficult. To achieve something, you have to come up with some ideas."
Speaking about Alajobegovič, Giuntoli said: "I think we've also achieved some of the things we wanted, including this 19-year-old boy. The overall market is seriously inflated; all prices are exaggerated, and perhaps it's time to step back. We're overdoing everything, always talking about 60 million, 70 million, 80 million euros."
"Alajobegovič is still young; is this price appropriate? I think it is. He's a potential player. This is the type of player we can bet on today; it's very difficult to bet on top players right now. We also have to be realistic; we need players who tomorrow can still be sold for 60 million, 70 million, 80 million euros."
"He has talent in many ways, and we've monitored him very closely. Players of this type are not easy to buy now, not just for Juventus, but for all Italian clubs. We nearly lost him. If we hadn't found a solution, he would have been taken away because Chelsea made a significantly higher offer."
Giuntoli also said: "We could face the same situation that Inter Milan encountered with Palacio, and that's normal: we cannot compete with the Champions League level market."
Additionally, Giuntoli discussed Juventus's challenges in managing the squad: "We also have to consider that some players haven't performed well in previous years. To bring in new players, some players have to leave first, and these operations are not easy at all. We do these things hoping that these young players will prove their worth elsewhere and then one day might be sold back at a higher price."
