Discussing Manchester City's financial violations, Shearer believes that Premier League titles awarded years after the fact would be meaningless.

Shearer won three Premier League titles with Manchester United in 1999, 2000, and 2001. He has been following the developments of this major football matter.

Manchester City has been found guilty by the Premier League and faces unprecedented sanctions, including potential title stripping.

Title stripping is only the first step; the second could be title redistribution. Theoretically, Manchester United could be awarded the two league titles from 2012 and 2018, the years corresponding to Manchester City's violations.

Shearer said he would not want to receive a winners' medal years later if he had been part of those two Manchester United squads.

Shearer said in an interview: "Receive a winners' medal years later? That's meaningless. It has no value to me."

"Football is about the present, about what happened at the time. You could say 'we always felt something was wrong' or 'we couldn't believe they were spending so much money to bring in the best players and pay such high wages,' but as a player, nothing changes."

"Receive a medal for a season we didn't win? No, I don't want it."

David de Gea and Nemanja Matić both expressed interest in receiving medals for their contributions. Matić's situation is particularly unique, as he never won a league title while playing for Manchester United. Recognition of these titles would enhance his career record.

In contrast, Shearer and Rooney already have multiple winners' medals, making their reluctance to receive another more understandable.

Rooney said: "Honestly, receiving another Premier League medal would make me very uncomfortable, because I don't think we deserve it. Looking at our performance that season, we weren't good enough to win the league title."

Former Manchester United star Roy Keane offered a different perspective. He said that if he were a Manchester City player now, he would "throw the winners' medal in the bin."
