The report states that 39-year-old Messi will play his last national team match in Buenos Aires, which will be his 207th cap. Messi has currently scored 125 goals for Argentina, with Lautaro Martínez being the closest active player with 42 goals.
Messi also holds the record for most appearances for Argentina, with 206 caps. Mascherano and Di María follow with 147 and 145 appearances respectively, both of whom have retired from international football. Messi is also the record holder for World Cup appearances and goals for Argentina, with 34 appearances and 21 goals.
Additionally, Messi shares the record for most goals in South American World Cup qualifiers with Suárez, both having scored 31 goals. Moreno Martins, Crespo, Sánchez, and Cavani have scored 22, 19, 20, and 17 goals respectively, and are no longer playing for their national teams.
