According to COPE, Modrić spoke about the future of his playing career after Croatia's loss to Spain.

Much has been said about Modrić's evergreen performances. The player has stated that he dislikes the constant narrative surrounding his age of 39, and on the field, it is clear he still enjoys competing at the highest level. Yesterday, after Croatia's defeat to Spain, the Real Madrid player was interviewed by COPE in the mixed zone.
Modrić said: "I feel good, I still have passion, ambition, and strength. As long as I feel this way, I want to keep playing. How much longer can I play at this age? I can't say for sure: it could be two months, three months, six months, a year, two years... I don't know. I don't want to give an answer now and regret it later. I will take it step by step, game by game, month by month, listening to my body and my feelings, and then make a decision calmly. We will see how long it lasts: whether this will be my last year in football, I don't know yet. But what I can tell you is that I feel good and I still enjoy all of this."
