Tottenham legend Chris Waddle believes that despite the club's poor start to the season, Tottenham can still secure a Europa League spot.

Tottenham currently sits at the bottom of the Premier League and has earned just 2 points from their first 5 matches. This weekend, they will play an away fixture against Manchester United. After spending over £300 million in summer transfers, De Zerbi's side has underperformed, and the club needs wins to ease tensions among supporters. De Zerbi successfully kept Tottenham in the league last season and enjoys considerable domestic support, but he knows results must improve quickly to advance the club's position.

Supporters initially believed that after the significant reinforcements in the summer, Tottenham could compete for a European spot, but that goal now seems distant. Waddle rates De Zerbi highly and believes the Italian manager has the ability to guide Tottenham to a Europa League position.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Waddle said: "It would be brilliant for them to continue like this. So it wouldn't surprise me if Tottenham secured a Europa League spot. I don't understand why they can't string a few wins together and climb the table. Apart from the top two or three teams, the rest are dropping points against each other — everyone can be beaten easily. There's no reason why Tottenham, with a winning streak and staying comfortable in the top half, couldn't achieve that."

After the international break, Tottenham will face Manchester United away, followed by a home match against Coventry, an away fixture against Chelsea, and finally a home match against Crystal Palace. Waddle emphasized the importance of Tottenham's upcoming fixtures. To maintain European aspirations, the team must win against Coventry and Crystal Palace.

Waddle added: "Frankly, if you look at the fixture list at the start of the season and see that you're playing Coventry and Crystal Palace at home, you'd think those are good matches. Every game is difficult, but these are the kind of fixtures you need to win to compete for the league title or European places. I'm not singling out Crystal Palace or Coventry, but you'll struggle to find better home fixtures than these two teams. If Tottenham has the quality, these two matches should really kickstart their season."
