Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara has been appointed manager of National League South club Billericay.

The one-time England Under-21 international had been a player-assistant at the Blues, who play in the sixth tier of English football.

O'Hara has now taken over from Harry Wheeler, who was dismissed on Monday by owner Glen Tamplin, and will be in charge for the first time on Saturday at home to Basildon in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

An official club statement read: 'We can now confirm that Harry Wheeler has been relieved of his duties and has left the club after a recent meeting with the owner.

'Differences of opinion have led to the decision and the owner feels changes needed to be made.

'Jamie O'Hara will take control of first-team duties and will look to immediately make his mark by looking at bringing in some young talented academy players to add to the good experience we have.

'From all at the club we wish Harry all the best for the future and we thank him for all his efforts and successes in his time here.'

Billericay are seventh in the National League South, with five wins from 11 matches this season, but they have been held to draws in each of their last three fixtures.

O'Hara, 32, first joined the club in March 2017 as a player and helped them win the Isthmian Premier Division, Isthmian League Cup and Essex Senior Cup in the 2017/18 campaign.

The ex-Wolves midfielder left in December 2018, but returned the following month as player-assistant.
