The Sun: Brazil (w) v USA (w) friendly sees 8 red cards, Brazil stars blast USA for lack of respect

According to British media reports, a friendly match between Brazil (w) and USA (w) saw eight red cards, and riot police intervened at one point.

On Tuesday, USA (w) and Brazil (w) faced each other in a chaotic friendly match that saw a total of eight red cards. The two teams clashed at the Castelão Arena in Fortaleza, three days after Brazil (w) had won the first of two encounters 2-1 with goals from Tainá Maranhão and Bia Zaneratto.

The match started with a lot of tension. Michelle Cooper allegedly stomped on Maranhão but was not penalized.

Subsequently, Sofia Wilson created Isabella's own goal, her shot deflecting into the bottom right corner of the net.

The chaos quickly escalated. Brazil's coach, Arthur Elias, received the first red card of the match for allegedly kicking the ball away. Two of his assistants were also sent off in the same dispute.

In the fourth minute of injury time, Zaneratto was sent off after receiving her second yellow card for pushing Emily Sonnett with one hand off the ball.

The situation then spiraled further out of control, with Tharciane being red-carded for elbowing Wilson in the face.

Brazil (w) ultimately finished the game with nine players, but after the final whistle, Kerolin and Ludmila also appeared to receive red cards. Two more staff members from the Brazilian national team were sent off, bringing the total number of Brazilian players and staff sent off to eight.

Subsequently, riot police surrounded the refereeing team on the field, waiting for the tension to subside.

After the final whistle, Brazilian midfielder Angelina did not hide her opinion of the match, accusing the refereeing team and USA (w) of a lack of respect.

Angelina said: "To be honest, what happened here today was an absolute disgrace."

She said: "The fourth official had no idea what was happening on the field, VAR wasn't working, and clearly nothing was checked."

Angelina continued: "Our player was stomped on, and no one went back to look. Then there was a push here, and the referee suddenly wanted to start sending our players off, so it's really hard to accept."

She also said: "One USA (w) player said in an interview that the atmosphere here was good, but on the field, she said we were trash and couldn't play."

Angelina stated: "So there was a great lack of respect, both from the referee and from their players."

She said: "They kept talking, but when it really mattered, when there were no cameras, they would also talk a lot of trash on the field."

Angelina concluded: "I want to thank the fans who have always supported us. We will always give our best, and unfortunately, today we were greatly affected in our fight for a result. But we will continue to work hard to prevent such things from happening again."

Over 55,000 fans watched the match live in Brazil.
