Ruben Amorim called for patience to embed his style at AC Milan after his perfect start to life in Serie A came to an end at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. 

Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Juventus, with Federico Gatti coming off the bench to head home a stoppage-time equaliser and cancel out Alphadjo Cisse's second-half goal.

Juventus had dominated the match but were hit with a sucker punch in the 68th minute when Cisse, just seven minutes after coming on, picked out the bottom-right corner.

Amorim was moments away from becoming the fourth manager to win all of his first three Serie A games in charge of Milan, but Gatti's late header snatched a point for Juventus.

Milan and Juventus have now drawn three consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since November 1973, when they drew four in a row, while this was the first time since September 2021 that both teams managed to find the back of the net in this fixture. 

The Rossoneri were able to avoid defeat in a Serie A match in which they attempted three or fewer shots for the first time in the last 20 years, though they were only able to accumulate an expected goals (xG) tally of just 0.09 from their efforts.

Speaking after the game, Amorim conceded that his team did not deserve to take all three points, acknowledging the need for improvements across all areas of his team. 

"We didn't deserve to win, if we are honest, or more like Juventus didn't deserve to lose," Amorim told DAZN Italia. "We tried to play our game, but we were not good with the ball.

"We had moments when we controlled the game in the first half, but we started losing the ball a lot, we didn't play well, but again we have been working together for two months.

"We need to do better, but we need time, it was a tough game for us."

Francisco Conceicao had been Juventus' most likely source of goals, with the Portugal international forcing Mike Maignan into making two smart stops during the first half. 

Conceicao then struck the post 10 minutes after the restart, but Milan were able to survive Juventus' waves of attack before taking the lead against the run of play. 

"We have individual qualities, but the simple things are the most important. The way we receive and pass, the fundamentals of football. Today we were not good," Amorim added.

"My feeling is when my team doesn't have the ball, we struggle. When Juve put a lot of strikers in front, we defended well, but we suffered more when we lost the ball. 

"We are not going to change the way we play, because we know that in some games it'll go well, in others it won't, but the important thing is that we fight to win.

"We could've won today, but again Juventus didn't deserve to lose either."

Amorim showered praise on Cisse, who scored Milan's first goal against Juventus in Serie A since Olivier Giroud's strike all the way back in May 2023.

At 19 years and 319 days old, Cisse also became the youngest player to score in his first two away appearances for Milan in Serie A in the three-points-per-win era (since 1994-95), while he also finished with team-high totals for touches in the opposition box (two) and attempted dribbles (three). 

Before Cisse, the last players to score away from home against both Torino and Juventus in the same Serie A season were Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic in 2020-21, and Amorim believes the teenager has a bright future ahead of him. 

"I'm really happy with all the players and want to be careful with the young players, because now everyone makes them really big really soon," Amorim said of Cisse.

"He is a young kid, he's just starting his career and needs to train well. Everyone loves to see a kid doing really well. I look at Cisse and think he can do so much better. 

"Today was not the perfect day, but sometimes I want too much, and we were so close to winning this game."
