Paris Saint-Germain opened their pre-season with a thumping 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mallorca.

Match Report

Luis Enrique's side are still missing a lot of players due to their World Cup involvement, but PSG struggled to mount much of a challenge for the LaLiga 2 side at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

Mallorca gave PSG an early warning as Miguel Calatayud breezed down the right of the box, with Matvey Safonov getting fully behind the shot.

Ibrahim Mbaye then struck the top of the crossbar just moments before Zito Luvumbo broke the deadlock at the other end as he drove down the right and lifted his tight-angled shot over Safonov 21 minutes in.

Five minutes before the break, Sergi Darder powered his way through midfield before teeing up Jan Virgili, who dinked a lovely effort over Safonov and into the far-bottom corner.

Senny Mayulu and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia both had efforts saved before half-time, but Mallorca retained their momentum after it as Antonio Raillo threw himself on the end of a corner to head in their third six minutes into the second half.

Mallorca continued to up the pressure, though Adrian Fuentes could not find a way past Lucas Chevalier, with PSG drawing a blank as they struggled to test the opposition defence.

PSG left with work to do before Super Cup

Luis Enrique will not be too worried about the result of this match, in PSG's first friendly of pre-season with a lot of their big hitters still missing.

But there is only one week to go until they face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, leaving the Spaniard with issues to address if they want to add another trophy to their collection.

Mallorca, who were relegated from LaLiga last season, had less possession but showed a real threat in the box, racking up 1.81 expected goals (xG) – 1.69 of that from open play – having 17 shots and testing the goalkeepers with six of those.

The hosts also had four 'big' chances, while PSG only managed to get three of their eight attempts on target, though Mbaye was unlucky to strike the bar.

Dro Fernandez and Mayulu both created three chances apiece, with the latter also having three shots as he provided a bright spark, but Luis Enrique will hope they can start to click into gear against Manchester United on Saturday.
