Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart told BBC Radio 5 Live that he trusts Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak's statement that the club has not violated financial rules, saying Al Mubarak's words reassured him.

Manchester City has been accused of breaching 115 Premier League financial rules, and the club plans to appeal the charges. Al Mubarak stated that he remains committed to "proving the club's innocence" and described the process as having "a long way to go."

Hart, who made 75 appearances for England and 348 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions between 2006 and 2016, said on the show that Al Mubarak "led the club well" and is a "trustworthy" person. Hart said: "Honestly, I have no reason not to trust Khaldoon. What he said was enough for me. I liked the way he spoke, and I liked the letter, because it was written by someone who genuinely cares about the club."

Hart stated that there is currently "no concrete evidence" and that things should "run their course," adding that the controversy will not diminish his achievements at Manchester City. He won two Premier League titles, two League Cups, and one FA Cup with the club.

Hart said: "If Manchester City are found guilty, then there will be things to discuss. But for now, I am very confident and very calm. I am proud of what I achieved at Manchester City, what I accomplished with Manchester City, and what we achieved as a team. That will not change."

Hart said he had not considered discussing the news with former Manchester City teammates because he "can't get caught up in those what-ifs, buts, and maybes." He said: "I did what I was supposed to do. I played football matches, and I solved problems on the field. I won some games, lost some games, and drew some games, and then I moved on. I know what I did, and I know what we did, and I know how it all happened. It didn't feel like a conspiracy, and it didn't feel like anything was being planned."
