Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm has praised the coaching work of his former teammate Miroslav Klose at Nuremberg.

Lahm believes Klose is particularly strong at player selection. In a column for Die Zeit, Lahm wrote: "Miro has the genes of a great coach."
The 113-cap Germany international also noted that Klose relies on a core group of regular starters, including Nuremberg academy players, and praised this approach as similar to that of Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. Lahm stated: "Miro does things differently from many others; he doesn't overcomplicate things."
By contrast, Lahm criticized former Germany coach Nagelsmann for his frequent tactical changes during his time managing the national team, arguing this hindered the team's development. Lahm also advocated for giving young players more opportunities, noting that Bundesliga clubs operate "expensive youth academies." In terms of developing young talent, Lahm views Klose as an exception in Germany.
Germany's all-time leading scorer is now in his third year as Nuremberg coach, with the team currently sitting second in the 2. Bundesliga. Klose and Lahm played together for Germany more than 80 times and won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The final in Rio was also their last match for Germany.
