According to Footmercato, Cherki's performance against Italy was inconsistent, but he still earned Zidane's trust.

At the Stade de France, the midfielder was rated 5 by the FM editorial team. He showed occasional flashes of brilliance, but his influence on the game was intermittent. Playing as an attacking midfielder again, Cherki also made some technical errors. While France generally dominated possession, they struggled for long periods to truly disrupt Italy's defensive formation.

However, Cherki's performance was not without merit. As one of the most promising talents of his generation, he was involved in France's opening goal. Cherki first won the free kick, then cleverly flicked the ball to Michaël Olise, who struck a superb shot into the top corner in the 55th minute. This interplay showcased Cherki's technical ability and demonstrated that even if he struggles to consistently impact the game, he can still create key opportunities.

Despite room for improvement in his performance, Zidane has decided to continue trusting Cherki. The former Real Madrid coach stated after the final whistle, "I rely on everyone, I have many high-level players, and Rayan is one of them. I am satisfied with his game tonight." Cherki started against Turkey, then played the same role against Belgium, and was back in the starting lineup against Italy, clearly indicating he is part of the French coach's plans.

France will face Belgium again on Monday night. Prior to that, the Lyon-born player's record remains mixed. Cherki is still adapting to the attacking midfield role; the French international has scored 2 goals in 17 appearances and needs to improve his consistency. Zidane believes his characteristics can provide value to the French team and is willing to continue giving him playing time. Cherki now needs to convert this trust into more consistent performances and a more sustained impact on the game. The test will begin with Monday's match against Belgium.
