After surpassing Cha Bum-kun with 59 goals to become South Korea's all-time leading scorer, national team captain Son stated that it was a great honor to stand alongside Cha Bum-kun and expressed his hope that younger players would soon break his record.

Son said, "Honestly, this training camp was filled with pressure and concerns after the World Cup, with four home matches ahead. But with the new coach and teammates, I learned a lot, and it was a very valuable time."
He added, "Although there are still many areas to improve, the gains outweigh the shortcomings. Thank you to the fans who came to support us even during difficult times. Thanks to you, these moments have been so meaningful. I sincerely appreciate everyone."
On becoming South Korea's sole all-time leading scorer ahead of Cha Bum-kun, Son paid tribute: "Coach Cha will always be a legendary figure. It is a great honor to be mentioned alongside him, and I feel humbled by the comparison. I must continue to do better."
Son doesn't expect his record to stand for long: "I hope that a record an ordinary player like me could break will soon be surpassed by even better players. I look forward to seeing stronger talent emerge and take this record to new heights."
