Mo Marley asked her England side to play with freedom against Bosnia – and she was delighted with how creative they were in their comfortable 4-0 victory.

Captain Steph Houghton bagged a brace while a Nikita Parris header and a Fran Kirby penalty completed the scoring at a sold-out Banks’s Stadium.

The result maintains the Lionesses’ 100 per cent start to their 2019 World Cup qualifying campaign, leaving them in second place, behind Wales, in Group 1.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work since I’ve been in post about being a bit more creative and I’m obviously really pleased with the opportunities we created.

“[Before the game], I said about expressing themselves on the pitch.

“With the way we set out, we pretty much had five forwards on the pitch and it was a case of being fluid [and] being free with the ball.”

She continued: “There were loads of goalscoring moments and we potentially could have had more, but overall, I’m very, very happy with what we contributed.

“It will take time, particularly because there were a lot of young players on the pitch, but we want everybody to be able to play and be consistent, and have that fluency with each other.”

It was the second of a three-match stint for Marley as England’s interim head coach, following the 1-0 defeat by France last month.

The next qualifier is against Kazakhstan in Colchester on Tuesday night – and Marley said every squad member is in contention for a starting berth.

She added: “We’ve rotated in two games already. It’s about me giving everybody a fair assessment and making everybody competitive in training.

“We’ve got a few more training sessions to come before Tuesday’s match and hopefully everybody pushes, and it gives us an opportunity to rotate the team.”
