There's little doubting that Diego Simeone has been one of football's most influential coaches, and few have had a style quite as clearly defined as his at Atletico Madrid.

It could be argued that his imprint at Atletico is even deeper-rooted than Johan Cruyff's at Barcelona as his work isn't yet finished.
Atletico's win against Real Valladolid on Saturday was his 180th in LaLiga Santander with Los Rojiblancos in his 285th game in charge. With it, he surpassed Cruyff's 179 victories and in 15 fewer matches, with the Dutchman doing so in 300 matches. Simeone has also lost fewer games: 45, compared to Cruyff's 53.
In fact, only two coaches in LaLiga Santander history have won more games in charge of the same team. Luis Aragones collected 194 with Atletico, though in 407 games, and Miguel Munoz enjoyed 257 with Real Madrid.
Beyond the results, Simeone's impact has been felt at his club in a way that few men who occupy football's benches can claim. The Argentine has completely transformed Atletico, allowing them to consistently dine at European football's top table.
Although football purists might not enjoy his style, his methods are as valid as any other, and the results back him up.
If Cruyff's legacy is eternal, then Simeone and his approach will surely always be remembered in football's history books.
