A visibly upset female fan was left covered in blood after crowd trouble marred Romania's Under-21 clash with France in Cesena on Monday night.

The Romania supporter was pictured being escorted away by tournament officials while her shirt was covered in blood.

She appeared to be holding a tissue to her mouth while there was blood on her right hand.

Another male Romania fan was also escorted off the pitch after the match at the Dino Manuzzi Stadium.

Enthusiastic fans were also pushed back by stewards into their section of the stands at full-time.

The game itself was an uneventful 0-0 draw, enough to see both sides progress to the knockout stages of the European Championships from Group C.

Florinel Coman went close for Romania while France midfielder Lucas Tousart almost netted an own goal.

Romania shocked England last week in a thrilling 4-2 victory, which sent the tournament holders crashing out of the tournament.

Aidy Boothroyd's side also lost to France in their tournament opener, where a gut-wrenching collapse saw the Young Lions concede twice in the dying stages despite leading with 10 minutes to play.

The highly-rated Under-21 side attempted to end their tournament on a high on Monday night against Croatia, but despite leading their opponents three times, they were held to a 3-3 draw.

Romania's draw with France in their final tie was enough to win the group on goal difference and see their safe passage through to the semi-finals, where they will face Germany on Thursday.

France meanwhile will play Spain later that evening as they bid to reach the showpiece finale on Sunday in Udine.
