Tottenham forward Troy Parrott is reportedly on the verge of joining Millwall on a season-long loan deal.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the club during the 2019-20 campaign, playing four times but failed to score a goal and wasn't given a chance to show his potential, with manager Jose Mourinho claiming he was 'not ready' for first team action earlier this year.

And according to the Evening Standard, Parrott is set to gain experience in the Championship under Gary Rowett, with the Republic of Ireland star set to complete a medical in Dublin.

His Ireland Under-21 team-mate Jayson Molumby, who spent last season on loan with the Lions from Brighton, has given a 'glowing reference' of Parrott, the report claims.

There had been calls from Tottenham fans for Troy Parrott to be given a run in the first team after injuries to Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min at the start of the year, but Mourinho opted to use Dele Alli and Lucas Moura as makeshift forwards.

After being brought on in the dying minutes of a 3-2 home loss to Wolves, Mourinho insisted the time was not right to start him.

'He's not ready,' Mourinho said. 'He's not ready.

'He's a good kid we want to help, not only on the pitch but off it. He's a kid who's going to have real opportunity but when we decide it's right.

Millwall exceeded expectations last season by finishing eighth - just two points outside the play-offs. The team improved massively after Neil Harris was sacked in October, with Rowett inspiring a turnaround.

Parrott would boost Millwall's ranks next season to help them go the extra mile to reach the play-offs. He made his international debut last year and remains highly regarded by Spurs - signing a new deal in February.

Lions fans will be hoping the teenager can have a similar effect to another former Tottenham youth star. Harry Kane enjoyed a spell at the Den in 2011-12, scoring nine goals in 27 appearances.
