According to U.S. media outlet B/R, the U.S. Soccer Federation is discussing keeping Pochettino as coach of the U.S. national team after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson told reporters Thursday, "We're in active discussions with Mauricio (Pochettino) and the coaching staff about the future. We all believe that the best days of U.S. Soccer are ahead, and they're excited about bringing their influence to communities and all levels of soccer."

As for when a decision will be made, there is currently no clear timeline.

Batson added, "As we've said before, after the FIFA World Cup, we would have had time to rest and recover. I haven't had much rest or recovery, but we're excited about these discussions, and they have been actively planning for the long-term future. For example, in discussions with Steve (Cherundolo) about the U23 position, they have also been very active and important participants throughout the entire process, so we feel good about the overall progress and look forward to further discussions."
