FIFA President Gianni Infantino will make an official visit to Somalia before the end of the year, marking the first time a FIFA President has visited the country. The Somali Football Federation (SFF) announced the news.

The SFF called this a historic step for the development of football in Somalia. The SFF stated that the visit will focus on strengthening cooperation between FIFA and Somalia, and supporting the development of sports infrastructure and youth programs. The announcement was made after Infantino met with SFF President Ali Abdi Mohamed.

Somalia has been plagued by political instability and threats from the extremist group Al-Shabaab for more than 30 years, and the country views football as a tool to unite society and improve the nation's image. Infantino's visit is also seen as a vote of confidence in the rebuilding process of Somalia's sports institutions, following an incident where Somali international referee Omar Artan was unable to participate in recent World Cup matches due to a US visa refusal.
