So far, Carrick has approved the departures of five players: Casemiro, Højlund, Sancho, Malacia, and Onana. With Tielemans, Darlow, and Andrey Santos officially joining Old Trafford, the Man United manager is still considering letting go of more first-team veterans.

Just one month after Carrick officially became Man United's head coach in May, the club finalized this list of departing players.

The Manchester Evening News pointed out that the management gave the coach ample time to select the players he wanted to keep, and that all departure decisions were made personally by Carrick.

Malacia's, Sancho's, and Casemiro's contracts all expire this summer, with Casemiro having expressed his intention to leave as early as January this year. Højlund performed exceptionally well during his loan spell at Napoli, and the Serie A team activated his £38 million release clause to sign him permanently.

Onana's loan to Trabzonspor was extended for another year; the goalkeeper helped the Turkish Super Lig side finish third in the league and win the Turkish Cup. Carrick has now allowed five first-team players to leave and secured three new first-team signings, officially accelerating the team's rebuilding process.

After his contract expired and he left Man United, Malacia has yet to find a new club and remains a free agent; Celtic and Napoli had previously been rumored to be interested in him.

Sancho delivered a stellar performance during his loan spell at Dortmund in 2024, and there are now rumors that he could return to the Black and Yellows. Casemiro has officially announced his move to Inter Miami.

With five players departing, the club can save up to £830,000 in weekly wage expenses, allowing Carrick to free up funds to continue strengthening the squad.

Midfielder Andrey Santos became Man United's first signing this summer, with both parties agreeing to a five-year contract for an initial transfer fee of £48 million.

The team then signed Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer, a highly cost-effective deal. They also spent £35 million to bring in former Aston Villa midfielder Tielemans, strengthening the midfield. The team also signed winger Tynan-Thompson from Tottenham, and the youngster is highly likely to rotate between the first team and the U21 squad.

However, Man United's rebuilding and recruitment work is not yet complete, and the team is still pursuing several targets, with Bournemouth's Alex Scott among them. The Manchester Evening News has learned that the Red Devils' prospects of signing Scott improved this week, as the midfielder is the team's top target for midfield reinforcements this summer.

Scott has rejected Bournemouth's contract extension offer, which undoubtedly increases Man United's chances of signing him. The Cherries had initially hoped the midfielder would stay this season, but Carrick remains eager to bring him in.

It is reported that Arsenal and Chelsea are also competing for the player, while his refusal to renew his contract also indicates his intention to leave this summer.
