According to French media outlet Le Parisien, French defender Mendy recently sold a replica of his 2018 World Cup winner's medal and has responded to the matter.

Sportune, a media outlet focused on sports business, previously revealed that Mendy recently sold his World Cup trophy replica for $62,000 (approximately €54,000) through the "Global Football Auction Part.2" event hosted by American collectibles auction company Goldin.

In response, Mendy posted on his Snapchat account on Friday night into Saturday morning, confirming the news and jokingly addressing external doubts: "But is this my trophy, or your trophy? By the way, it belongs to me. This is my trophy, and I can do whatever I want with it. Besides, it takes up too much space in the cabinet."

It is understood that Mendy also provided a certificate of authenticity for the item. However, the replica had some damage, including cracks at the bottom.

Subsequently, Mendy again stated on social media that he had other trophies for sale and showed some of the honorary trophies he had won during his career.

The 32-year-old Mendy currently plays for Polish team Pogoń Szczecin. While playing for Manchester City in 2021, he was accused of multiple charges of alleged rape and attempted rape, subsequently undergoing detention and legal proceedings, and was finally acquitted two years later. Since then, his professional career has not smoothly restarted, and he has played for teams such as Lorient and Zürich without achieving ideal results, ultimately choosing to develop in the Polish league.
