Roberto De Zerbi says Tottenham are "suffering" because of recent results but is confident everything will "click" into place when they start getting wins on the board.

Since the start of 2026-27, Spurs have won just one game – a 5-1 thrashing of Charlton Athletic to reach the EFL Cup third round.

And that is where their progress was halted as they were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo – a Spurs transfer target over the summer – and Dominik Szoboszlai scoring the goals for the Reds.

Conor Gallagher had pulled one back for Spurs, netting their first goal since that Charlton win, as De Zerbi’s side’s winless run stretched on.

Spurs remain without a win and goal in the Premier League, though they have drawn their last two outings in the competition 0-0.

But De Zerbi believes the players’ confidence will only grow when they shake off this bad run and get some wins on the board.

"We are suffering because the results are our life. If we lose, we are sorry, we are sad, we are disappointed, we are frustrated," De Zerbi told Spurs' website.

"It's tough. But it's the first moment, the first part of this new project.

"We have to accept and be stronger than this unlucky moment because I'm honest with myself, and I'm honest with you. I think in these five, six games we have been, for sure, not lucky with Newcastle [United], with Everton, even with Nottingham [Forest] and [Liverpool] as well.

"We have to improve a lot of things because the first goal we conceded [against Liverpool], we didn't defend in the right way. I think watching the game, the last three, four games, maybe until the 60th minute with Newcastle, I think we are in the right way.

"I believe in my players; I have a big confidence, a big opinion of my players, and when we arrive to find the click, win a game, I think we enjoy with these players because the qualities of the players are incredible.

"Have a look at [Omar] Marmoush, Savio, [Mohammed] Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Mateus Fernandes, [Andy] Robertson, don't forget Pedro Porro, [Dominic] Solanke... Solanke top, he's a good player. It's a tough moment, but we have to be stronger to prepare our best for the next game with Aston Villa and to find this click."

Spurs arguably should have scored more than Liverpool, having had 17 shots worth 2.3 expected goals (xG), getting six on target.

Liverpool, by contrast, hit the target with five of their 12 attempts.

Spurs pushed more after the break, getting rewarded by Gallagher’s 69th-minute goal, but De Zerbi still wants to see even more of a threat from his team.

"We have to shoot more times; we have to shoot better; we have to finish better in a clear situation," he added

"I don't know if the 'click' is Saturday or not, but we have to find [the spark] because we have the qualities enough to score many goals with these players."
