Despite strong interest from Chelsea, Melvin Gomes (18) is set to sign his first professional contract with formative club AS Monaco, as per a report from L’Équipe.

Gomes, born down the coast in the city of Marseille, joined Les Monégasques back in 2023. The defender, who plays as both a centre-back and at right-back, currently features with the Principality club’s Groupe Élite, whilst he also represents France at U18 level. Seen as a defender with high potential, he had been the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Premier League side even went so far as to submit a contract offer, however, Gomes will instead sign with Monaco.

L’Équipe understands that Gomes’ first professional contract will be made official in the coming days. The defender is set to sign a three-year deal with the Principality club. In the short-term, it is expected that he will continue to feature for the Groupe Élite, although Monaco’s policy ensures that a pathway to the first team is provided.
