According to ESPN, the Saudi Pro League has launched a new program that allows players and content creators to earn revenue by promoting match links on their social media platforms.

Players and content creators can promote and share links to individual Saudi Pro League matches or match packages on their respective platforms and receive a share of the revenue generated.

If Ronaldo participates, the program could be highly lucrative for him, given his combined social media following of over one billion across various platforms. The Portuguese superstar joined Al Nassr in 2022, though he has hinted that this season could be his last before retirement.

When users click a link shared by Ronaldo or other participants, they are directed to a streaming platform owned by the league.

With league approval, some publishers can also choose to directly host official Saudi Pro League live and on-demand content on their own platforms. This model is similar to the Bundesliga's partnerships in the UK with content creator Mark Goldbridge and Burnley striker Jamie Vardy.

In such cases, the match stream would be embedded within the approved partner's platform.

The UK and Ireland are among 16 regions where this content is available, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Canada, New Zealand, Serbia, South Korea, Malta, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Cyprus, and Greece.

Omar Mugharbel, CEO of the Saudi Pro League, stated: "The way people discover, consume, and engage with sport is changing rapidly. Increasingly, fans are connecting with competitions, clubs, and players through digital platforms and the creators and communities they trust."

He added: "For generations, sports broadcasting has been predominantly a relationship between rights holders and broadcasters. Advances in technology and the growth of the creator economy have given us the opportunity to add another dimension to this relationship—enabling a broader network of partners to help connect our football with fans and share in that growth."

"By making access and distribution more widespread, we can bring live Saudi Pro League football closer to international fans while allowing approved content creators, our clubs and players, and other distribution partners to genuinely participate in helping us reach new audiences."

He concluded: "For the Saudi Pro League, this is an opportunity to innovate, learn, and build new relationships with the people and platforms shaping how sport is discovered and consumed globally. As we continue to grow internationally, we want to explore new models that bring fans and the league closer together and create shared value as our international audience expands."
