Como’s unbeaten start to the Serie A season came to an abrupt halt after Romano Schmid starred in a 2-0 home win for Frosinone.

Schmid created both first-half goals on Sunday, crossing for Giacomo Calo’s opener and teeing up Giorgi Kvernadze’s finish as Frosinone climbed into fifth and leapfrogged Como.

An entertaining opening should have seen Cesc Fabregas’ side take the lead. Tasos Douvikas saw a first flick saved before Martin Baturina’s effort was cleared off the line by Ilario Monterisi, and Lorenzo Palmisani turned another header from Douvikas onto the post in the same attack.

Fares Ghedjemis missed a great chance at the other end after seeing his one-on-one attempt smothered by Jean Butez, but Frosinone would not be denied for much longer.

Just a minute after Ghedjemis’ chance, Schmid delivered low from the byline on the right for Calo to sweep into the roof of the net, scoring his first goal in Serie A.

Gabriele Bracaglia then kept Butez on his toes, while Antonio Raimondo passed up three chances to extend the hosts’ lead.

But that vital second goal arrived on the stroke of half-time as, after Nico Paz’s header was saved by Palmisani, Schmid raced away on the counter-attack and freed Kvernadze, who slammed past the weak right hand of Butez.

Paz and half-time substitute Moise Kean were both thwarted by Palmisani after the interval, before the Italy striker saw another chance saved by the Frosinone goalkeeper.

Palmisani continued to impress, tipping over remarkably from Jesus Rodriguez’s thunderous hit as Frosinone held on for a clean sheet and an impressive victory.

Kvernadze delight as Frosinone stay strong at home

Como will have expected a result here, given they had collected the most Serie A away points (30) since the start of 2026 heading into this clash.

But Frosinone refused to roll over, earning back-to-back home wins in the competition for the first time since a three-game winning streak between October and November 2023.

Kvernadze will take some of the plaudits after scoring for a third straight Serie A game, becoming just the second Frosinone player to do so (after Matias Soule in October 2023).

It continued a strong run for Frosinone against Como, making it five wins in their last six head-to-head meetings, albeit the other fixtures were in the lower tiers of Italian football.

But Fabregas may feel his side deserved more, having accumulated 2.2 expected goals (xG) to their hosts’ 1.96.

The difference was the quality of finishing and the goalkeepers, too, with Palmisani making an outstanding seven saves to help Frosinone to a big victory heading into the international break.
