The Spanish Football Federation has released audio recordings of two VAR incidents from the Madrid derby, involving Cristian Romero's foul on Bellingham and the penalty caused by Huijsen on Giuliano Simeone. The recordings contradict Mourinho's post-match comments about these decisions.

In the 35th minute, Cristian Romero's foul on Bellingham occurred during a 50/50 ball challenge. The referee awarded Atletico Madrid a free kick and showed Bellingham a yellow card, but VAR alerted referee Miguel Ortiz to a potential case of mistaken identity regarding who committed the foul.

VAR assistant Trujillo Suarez stated: "I suggest you review it to assess whether there was a mistaken identity." He explained: "I see an Atletico Madrid player stepped on a Real Madrid player, and the Real Madrid player touched the ball first."

Miguel Ortiz immediately reversed his decision: "Okay, I'll cancel the yellow card for the Real Madrid player and show a yellow card to the Atletico Madrid player, correct?" The two officials never discussed whether the Argentine centre-back should have received a red card, which Mourinho demanded in his infamous post-match press conference photos.

The second incident under review involved Huijsen's foul on Giuliano Simeone. In the 49th minute, with the score still 0-0, the Real Madrid defender pulled down the Argentine player, preventing him from shooting while facing Courtois. Miguel Ortiz immediately awarded a penalty but issued a yellow card to the Spanish international instead of a red card.

Atletico Madrid players vehemently protested the decision, surrounding the referee and arguing that Huijsen was the last defender. Moments later, VAR again advised him to consider a potential red card. Trujillo Suarez warned: "I recommend you review it to assess whether a red card is warranted for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO), because he pulled the opponent without attempting to play the ball."

Miguel Ortiz did not hesitate to correct his initial decision: "Can I see a wide angle to check the goalkeeper's position? Okay, initially I thought the goalkeeper could reach it. Giuliano had control of the ball, and the goalkeeper was too far away to get there. There really was no possibility of playing the ball. I'll change the yellow card to a red card and maintain the penalty decision."
