According to ESPN, Townsend described being run over by a pitch roller in Thailand as "pretty horrific."

Townsend recalled the "pretty horrific" moment he was run over by a pitch roller in Thailand, thinking "that was it for me." At halftime, his teammates were shocked to find the former England winger flattened by heavy machinery.

The player, now with Thai club Prachuap FC, encountered the accident during a "rondo" drill at halftime. Surprisingly, he ultimately suffered no serious injuries.

"Every time I watch the video, I can't quite believe it, it's pretty horrendous," Townsend said when first discussing the incident on Piers Morgan's "Football Uncensored."

"When I sent the video to my kids, they thought it was AI. I spent the next 10 minutes trying to explain to them that it was real."

Townsend stated: "Looking back, it's pretty horrific, and you think about the ramifications that could have happened. Luckily, I was very fortunate. I fell on the floor at the right time, so nothing got crushed when the roller went over me. I'm able to laugh about it today."

Townsend joked that he didn't pursue charges against the roller driver.

Townsend said: "We went out to warm up at halftime, and I saw two rollers on the side of the pitch. I thought, 'I've never seen this in my career—what are they doing?' But we were called to warm up, and I didn't think much of it."

"When I saw it again, I was already completely under the roller. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, just some bumps and scrapes, but I eventually walked away safely."

When his teammates saw the roller drive over Townsend, they turned their heads in shock and placed their hands on their heads.

Townsend said: "They were quite surprised that I was able to continue warming up. They told me to see a doctor and were calling for a stretcher. But I've been through a lot, experienced setbacks and injury issues—a roller certainly wouldn't stop me from continuing, no doubt about that."

Townsend's Prachuap FC subsequently defeated Pattani 3-0, with him coming off the bench in the latter part of the match.

Townsend added: "I thought that was it for me. The roller went over my ankle, where I've had surgery; it also went over my left knee, where I've also had surgery. I thought either my left ankle or my left knee was broken. I thought I was done for. Fortunately, I was able to hobble away and recover within a few minutes."

He first responded to the incident on social media on Sunday, writing: "Turns out, playing away at Stoke City wasn't so bad after all."
