The French national team officially announced that Real Madrid defender Ibrahima Konate has withdrawn from the current squad due to a minor right knee sprain. France head coach Zinedine Zidane has called up Manchester United defender Leny Yoro as his replacement.

This marks the first senior call-up for 20-year-old Yoro, who previously represented France's U21 team and was training with the U21 squad at the French National Football Centre.

With Konate sidelined, Yoro will have the opportunity to participate in his first senior international training camp. The key question for the Manchester United defender will be whether he can earn his debut during this international break.

Konate experienced knee pain during France's training session on Wednesday and subsequently underwent an MRI scan, which revealed a minor sprain. After consultation with the French team staff and medical teams from both France and Real Madrid, Konate will return to his club today.

The French team departed for Turkey this morning and will begin their 2027 UEFA Nations League campaign tomorrow. France will then face Belgium away on September 28, host Italy on October 2, and play Belgium again at the Stade de France on October 5.

For Yoro, this unexpected call-up represents a major opportunity to secure his senior debut for France.
